OhRyan Brooks Arrested; Arrest report: Man charged in crash that killed 12-year-old admitted to using THC pen

OhRyan Brooks Arrested; – The individual accused of fatally striking a 12-year-old boy near a school last week informed Las Vegas police officers that he had inhaled from a THC vape pen just moments prior to the incident, as stated in an arrest report.

Oh’Ryan Brooks was apprehended for the incident that left Cristofer Suarez in critical condition while he was en route to school on Friday. Cristofer subsequently succumbed to his injuries, as confirmed by an attorney representing his family late Monday night.

Numerous individuals dialed 911 shortly before 7:40 a.m. to report the accident near Owens Avenue and 21st Street. Eyewitnesses recounted the event to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, with one witness stating that she observed the SUV “speeding on Owens Avenue and colliding with the child.”

According to their arrest report, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police indicated that surveillance footage from the nearby Rancho High School captured the incident. Cristofer was seen crossing Owens in an implied crosswalk within an active school zone when an SUV struck him, propelling him into the fence of a church. The police reported that the SUV continued traveling east without stopping or slowing down.

Authorities identified the registered owner via the license plate and located the vehicle, a Mitsubishi, at an apartment complex. The car exhibited significant front-end damage consistent with the collision.

Brooks and another individual approached the officers at the apartment complex, where Brooks confessed to operating the SUV. He claimed he was unaware of what he had hit, but acknowledged that he had “inhaled some THC from his vape” between 6 and 7 a.m., according to police records.

He stated that the sun was in his eyes and believed he had struck something, yet he could not identify any missing car parts on the street. “He mentioned that he had his cell phone with him but did not make any calls because he does not do that and had no one to contact,” LVMPD documented.

An officer observed that Brooks “was swaying from side to side and slurring his words.” He underwent field sobriety tests, but at one point, he nearly lost his balance and had to be supported by another officer.

LVMPD secured a warrant for a blood draw and subsequently took Brooks into custody. He returned… A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 21.
