A deadly shooting in the Avondale neighborhood Monday afternoon has left a 27-year-old man dead, prompting an active investigation by the Cincinnati Police Department (CPD).

Authorities say the incident occurred shortly after 12:20 p.m. in the 800 block of Ridgeway Avenue, an area that quickly became the center of a heavy police presence as officers responded to reports of gunfire. According to officials, the shooting appeared to have taken place behind a local sign business, where investigators later concentrated their search for evidence.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. First responders immediately began life-saving efforts, and the victim was transported to UC Medical Center in critical condition. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the man succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

The victim has been identified by police as 27-year-old Quinton Nathanial Shouse.

As of Monday evening, no suspect information had been released, and detectives are continuing to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. Police are canvassing the neighborhood, speaking with potential witnesses, and reviewing nearby surveillance footage in hopes of identifying those involved.

Residents in the area described the shooting as deeply unsettling. Many expressed concern over the recent spate of violence in the community, noting that Ridgeway Avenue is typically a quiet stretch of Avondale.

“This is heartbreaking,” one neighbor told reporters. “We just want the violence to stop. Someone lost their life today — and that’s someone’s son, someone’s family.”
