Ronald J Kogut Obituary, Death; – The individual who fell victim to the fatal shooting on Dayton Street in Chicopee last month has been identified.

The Hampden District Attorney’s Office reports that on September 23rd at approximately 2:22 p.m., WESTCOMM Regional Dispatch received a notification regarding a shooting at 26 Dayton Street. Upon arrival, Chicopee police officers discovered a man lying in the driveway with an apparent gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The man was transported to Baystate Medical Center, where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries. On Tuesday, the DA’s Office disclosed the identity of the victim, 59-year-old Ronald J. Kogut from Chicopee.

The suspect and the vehicle they fled in were swiftly identified, prompting a broadcast to surrounding towns to be vigilant. At 4:12 p.m., the vehicle in question was reported to be seen traveling on I-391 and had exited at Exit 4 onto Grattan Street.

A Massachusetts State Trooper was following the vehicle, relaying his location. Due to the traffic congestion in that area, the suspect’s vehicle became immobilized, allowing Chicopee officers to reach the scene promptly and intercept the suspect vehicle at the intersection of Grattan Street and Meadow Street.

Both occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody. One of the suspects was confirmed to be the alleged shooter, identified as 27-year-old Timothy Lynch of Chicopee.
Lynch was arraigned in Chicopee District Court on the following charges:

Murder
Possession of a Firearm Without a FID Card
Possession of Ammunition Without a FID Card
Discharging a Firearm Within 500 Feet of a Building
Possession to Distribute a Class B Substance

Lynch is currently being held without the option of bail and is scheduled to appear next in court on November 10 for a pre-trial conference. This incident is under investigation by the Chicopee Police Detective Bureau, in conjunction with Troopers assigned to the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office.
