The Philadelphia community is mourning the loss of John J. “Jake” Flanagan, who passed away on October 7, 2025. Jake was a cherished son, brother, and partner, whose presence brought warmth, laughter, and love to everyone who knew him.
He was the beloved son of Jeanmarie (nee Larkin) Flanagan and the late Dennis Flanagan, and his memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jake is survived by his loving girlfriend, Ingrid “Mackie” Fitzgerald, who stood by his side and shared countless moments of joy and love with him. He was a devoted brother to Mary (Taylor), Dennis (Clare), Michael (Ali), and Liam (Kim) Flanagan, and a doting uncle to Kieran Flanagan, who will forever remember the laughter, guidance, and kindness of his uncle. Jake’s family describes him as a caring, loyal, and compassionate individual who always put the needs of others before his own. His life was marked by love, dedication, and an unwavering sense of family.
Those who knew Jake remember him for his warm personality, his quick wit, and his ability to light up any room. Whether spending time with family, laughing with friends, or simply sharing a quiet moment with his loved ones, Jake had a remarkable way of making everyone feel valued and appreciated. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the viewing on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 119 Rector Street, Philadelphia, PA 19127. Following the viewing, a funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the same location to honor and celebrate Jake’s life, legacy, and the love he shared with all those around him. Interment will be private, in keeping with the family’s wishes.
Jake’s passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of his family, friends, and community.
