HARVARD, Ill. — Authorities in McHenry County are investigating the tragic deaths of a husband and wife found inside a parked vehicle late Monday night in Harvard.
According to the Harvard Police Department, an officer conducting a routine check discovered the vehicle around 11:52 p.m. in the 700 block of North Division Street. The car was parked with its hazard lights flashing. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer found a man and a woman deceased inside.
Investigators identified the victims as Rachel Dumovich, 29, and Brandon Dumovich, 30, both originally from Sharon, Wisconsin. Rachel, who was from Crystal Lake, Illinois, and Brandon had been married for less than a year and were just four days away from celebrating their first wedding anniversary.
The McHenry County Coroner’s Office confirmed that both victims died from gunshot wounds. A firearm was recovered from inside the vehicle.
Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public, and the incident appears to be isolated. The McHenry County Major Investigative Assistance Team (MIAT) has been called in to assist with the investigation.
The discovery has shaken both the Harvard and Sharon communities, where the couple was well-known among friends and family. Tributes on social media described Rachel and Brandon as a loving, devoted pair whose lives were tragically cut short.
Authorities have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding their deaths as the investigation remains active.
