Millersville University is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Sydney Barnes, a junior biology major and cherished member of the women’s golf team, who tragically passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025, following a car accident in Greencastle, Pennsylvania.
Sydney was more than just a student-athlete; she was a bright light in the Millersville community. Known for her dedication, kindness, and infectious smile, Sydney left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She was a three-year starter on the women’s golf team, competing in 27 events and playing an integral role in the program’s historic 2025 season, where the team set a school record for wins. One of her most memorable achievements was recording the first-ever hole-in-one in the program’s history as a freshman — a testament to her skill and passion for the game.
Beyond her athletic accomplishments, Sydney’s life was guided by her strong faith and joyful spirit. She was an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, where her faith and leadership inspired many. Sydney carried her positivity both on and off the course, embodying the spirit of a true teammate and friend.
Academically, Sydney was equally accomplished. She excelled in her studies as a biology major and earned recognition as a Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar and a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete. Her commitment to excellence was evident in every aspect of her life.
Sydney’s presence will be deeply missed not only by her teammates and coaches but also throughout the entire Millersville University campus community. Her legacy of determination, faith, and friendship will continue to inspire those who knew her.
