Mark Morreall Obituary News: Tragic Accident at Rochester General Hospital Parking Garage Claims Life of 69-Year-Old Man

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Heartbreak struck the Rochester community after a tragic incident inside the parking garage of Rochester General Hospital claimed the life of 69-year-old Mark Morreall of Holley, New York.

According to the Rochester Police Department (RPD), the crash occurred on the second floor of the hospital’s Portland Avenue garage. Preliminary findings indicate that Morreall, who was driving inside the structure, collided with six parked vehicles before his car came to a stop and burst into flames. Despite the swift response from emergency crews, the vehicle was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. Sadly, Morreall was found deceased inside once the flames were extinguished.

Lieutenant Jackie Sierra of the Rochester Fire Department reported that six companies and 24 firefighters battled the intense blaze, working tirelessly to contain it before it could spread further. In total, nine vehicles were damaged during the crash and subsequent fire.

RPD confirmed that the incident appears to be accidental, with no criminal activity suspected. Investigators are exploring the possibility that a medical emergency may have led to the crash. “Our detectives from the arson task force are working to determine the exact circumstances,” said Captain George Bello. “We want to ensure we fully understand what happened and properly notify the family.”

Engineers have since assessed the structure and confirmed the parking garage remains structurally sound, though portions will stay closed as a safety precaution. The hospital itself remains fully operational, and staff and visitors are advised to use the Carter Street Garage until further notice.

Authorities continue to review surveillance footage and speak with witnesses as part of their ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact 911.

The community mourns the loss of Mark Morreall, whose sudden passing has left family, friends, and loved ones heartbroken.
