With profound sorrow, family, friends, and colleagues share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Alexandra Elizabeth Fischer (née Stetter), who died unexpectedly on Sunday, September 14, 2025, in New York City.
Just 28 years old, Alexandra—known affectionately as Alex—leaves behind a legacy of love, friendship, and compassion that touched countless lives. Alex was born in Burlington, Vermont, and raised in Montpelier, where she developed her lifelong passion for learning, sports, art, and friendship.
A proud graduate of Montpelier High School’s Class of 2015, Alex was known as an energetic debater, a fierce competitor across every season of athletics, and a gifted artist whose creativity brightened the school’s hallways long after she moved on. Her younger sister often followed in her footsteps, inspired by Alex’s achievements and warm encouragement.
After high school, Alex attended Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, where she majored in Public Policy. She fully immersed herself in college life—dedicating herself to academics, rowing, and, most importantly, the friendships that became family.
A semester abroad in Copenhagen expanded her horizons, deepened her connections, and further shaped her adventurous spirit. During her time at Hamilton, she also met her future husband, Eric Fischer, with whom she would later share her greatest joys.
Professionally, Alex began her career in Boston as a management consultant before relocating to New York City, where she became Chief of Staff / MA to the FDS&A Lead at American Express. Her colleagues admired her brilliance, work ethic, and natural gift for bringing people together.
Alex was known as the “social chair” of every workplace and friend group she joined, organizing gatherings, checking in on friends, and creating spaces of warmth and joy wherever she went.
In 2024, Alex and Eric married in Waitsfield, Vermont, surrounded by family and friends in a celebration that reflected their deep love and shared dreams.
The couple built their home in Manhattan, where Alex became known for her talent as a hostess, welcoming loved ones with delicious meals, laughter, and comfort. Her happiest moments were spent filling her apartment with people she cherished.
Alex’s compassion was limitless. She had a gift for recognizing the needs of others, whether through a comforting hug, a thoughtful note, or a perfectly chosen care package.
She believed no burden was too small if it weighed on a friend’s heart. Those who knew her remember her not only as a devoted wife, daughter, and sister, but as a radiant force who lifted others up simply by being herself.
She is survived by her loving husband, Eric Fischer; her devoted parents, Jeff and Jean Stetter; and her beloved sister, Meredith Stetter. Her family will forever treasure the joy she brought into their lives.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Grace Church, 802 Broadway, New York, NY, on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM, followed by visitation at Greenwich Village Funeral Home, 199 Bleecker Street, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A celebration of Alex’s life will also be held in Vermont at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kellogg-Hubbard Public Library in Montpelier or the Washington County Family Center. Additionally, the family invites those attending services to bring gently used, light-hearted novels for donation in Alex’s memory.
Alexandra Fischer’s life, though far too brief, was defined by compassion, generosity, and joy. She will be remembered always for the light she brought into the world and the love she so freely gave.
