We are deeply saddened by the passing of Agnes Gund, whose generosity and vision transformed the arts, education, and social justice. A tireless advocate, she showed us how creativity could be a powerful force for change.
ArtTable was honored to recognize her with our Distinguished Service to the Visual Arts Award in 1994, and in 2019 she welcomed our members into her home to view her collection—a true reflection of her generosity of spirit and willingness to invite others in.
At our 2011 Benefit & Award Ceremony, which she co-chaired, Agnes shared: “What unites ArtTable? Two ideas. The encouragement of women is certainly the original and invigorating idea. And second is the idea of the visual arts as a continuum, a community, a continually enlarging and diversifying platform for change and for commonality.
The players on this big platform are unified in the pursuit of creativity and quality across an entire spectrum. ArtTable stretches us beyond our usual professional limits, beyond our usual boundaries and borders.”
Aggie’s legacy is immeasurable. We join so many in mourning her loss and celebrating her extraordinary life.
Agnes Gund, a towering force in art and equity, has passed away. A visionary philanthropist, arts patron, and beloved friend of LDF, she served as President Emerita of the Museum of Modern Art and founded the Art for Justice Fund. In 2017, we honored her with our highest recognition, the National Equal Justice Award, for her unwavering commitment to justice and creativity. Her legacy endures. Rest in power.
