Marcus Dangerfield Obituary, Death; – Two individuals lost their lives and six others sustained injuries in two distinct vehicle accidents on Saturday night on the Eastern Shore, as reported by the Maryland State Police.
At approximately 11:22 p.m. on Saturday, troopers arrived at the scene of a two-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle on northbound U.S. Route 301 at Hayden Clark Road in Centreville.
The motorcyclist, identified as Marcus Dangerfield, aged 20, from Dover, Delaware, was declared dead at the scene, according to a news release from the state police. The driver of a GMC Acadia, a 45-year-old man, was transported by ambulance to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, while a 38-year-old woman passenger was airlifted by a state police helicopter.
Investigators reported that the GMC was traveling east on Hayden Clark Road, attempting to cross over northbound U.S. Route 301 when it was struck by the motorcycle. U.S. Route 301 remained closed for over two hours.
The second incident occurred around 11:55 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Maryland Route 213 and Riley’s Mill Road in Chestertown. State police indicated that a 17-year-old boy, who was a passenger in a Ford Fusion, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 19-year-old woman, was airlifted by a Maryland State Police helicopter to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for medical treatment.
Three other passengers, a 21-year-old woman, a 17-year-old boy, and a 23-year-old woman, were transported by ambulance to Chester River Hospital Center for care.
Investigators noted that the Ford was traveling southbound when, for reasons yet to be determined, the vehicle veered onto the right shoulder, lost control, collided with a telephone pole, and overturned.
Authorities suspect that impairment may have contributed to the crash, as stated in a news release.
Maryland Route 213 was closed for more than two hours to facilitate the crash investigation.
