Pavel Shchukin Arrested; – The truck driver implicated in the accident that resulted in the deaths of three members of a prominent television family is facing multiple criminal charges.
The Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday evening that charges have been brought against 55-year-old Pavel Shchukin, who hails from Florida. He is charged with three counts of moving violation causing death and five counts of moving violation causing serious impairment of a body function.
The charges arise from the incident that occurred on Friday night near Cass City. Bill and Barb Putman, along with their daughter-in-law Megan, lost their lives in the crash, while five others sustained injuries and were hospitalized.
All eight individuals are part of the Putman family, who were featured in TLC’s “Meet The Putmans.” This show aired in 2017 and documented the lives of Bill, Barb, their four children, and their extended family living together in a large home in Michigan’s Thumb region.
The series was revived in 2021 as a YouTube series titled “Growing Up Putman.”
According to investigators, Shchukin failed to stop at a stop sign while driving a semi-truck, colliding with the Putmans’ vehicle. Social media updates from the Putman family have identified Blake, Lulu, Alena, Noah, and Gia as the other five individuals injured in the accident.
Reports indicate that Noah and Gia are in the most critical condition. A family update shared on Monday stated that Noah remains sedated but is showing signs of movement. Gia has undergone a craniotomy, and her brain pressure has significantly decreased.
“This serves as a powerful reminder that God’s hand is upon her, guiding her healing at every step,” the family expressed in a social media update. “Throughout this ordeal, we continue to cling to our faith, trusting that God has a plan and purpose for everything. Even during the most challenging times, He is present, working in ways we may not yet comprehend.”
All eight charges against Shchukin are classified as misdemeanors. A moving violation causing death carries a maximum sentence of one year in prison, while a moving violation causing serious impairment of a body function has a maximum penalty of 93 days in jail.
