21-Year-Old Kimberly Venegas-Gonzalez Found Dead After Hours-Long Portland Police Standoff

Authorities have identified 21-year-old Kimberly Venegas-Gonzalez of Portland as the victim in a deadly incident that led to an hours-long standoff with the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) on Sunday evening.

Around 6:30 p.m., officers responded to a welfare check at a home near Southeast 170th Avenue and Southeast Division Street after a man called 911 reporting that a woman was dead inside. When police arrived, they encountered a man barricaded in the home and believed to be armed.

PPB requested assistance from tactical units and crisis negotiators. A short time later, tactical officers breached the front door and located Venegas-Gonzalez, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was removed from the home while the barricaded man continued to refuse police commands.

After several hours of negotiation, the man surrendered shortly before 9 p.m. and was taken into custody. Police said he was transported to a hospital for medical evaluation, and a firearm was recovered from the scene.

Venegas-Gonzalez’s family has been notified and is requesting privacy as they grieve.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information who has not yet spoken with police is urged to contact Detective Samantha Cater at Samantha.Cater@police.portlandoregon.gov or Detective Brent Christensen at Brent.Christensen@police.portlandoregon.gov.
