Quitiza Holmes Obituary, Death; – A 68-year-old man from Springfield, previously convicted of murdering a spouse, is now sentenced to spend the remainder of his life in prison for the murder of his wife last year.
The Hampden District Attorney’s Office has reported that Kenneth Robson was recently sentenced to a term of 25 years to life in state prison after pleading guilty to the murder of his wife, Quitiza Holmes, whom he struck with a hammer last year.
At the time of her death, she was 45 years old.
Authorities state that after the attack, her husband called 9-1-1 to report that she might be deceased.
The incident occurred on the morning of April 30th, 2024, when Robson made the call at approximately 4:52 a.m.
“During the call, Robson identified himself and informed dispatchers that he required an ambulance because ‘he hit his wife with a hammer and she might be dead,’” explained the Hampden DA’s Office.
It has been reported that during this phone call, the dispatcher instructed Robson to exit the building he was in, located on the 100 block of Federal Street, and to surrender to the police. Upon entering the building, officers encountered a scene of violence.
“Inside the residence, officers found Holmes lying face down in a pool of blood, suffering from severe head injuries and apparent defensive wounds. A blood-stained hammer with a wooden handle was found nearby,” noted the Hampden DA’s Office.
Emergency responders transported her to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, where she remained hospitalized for over two weeks.
On May 16, 2024, Holmes succumbed to the injuries sustained during the brutal attack.
“Throughout the investigation, Robson made several spontaneous remarks to the police, asserting that he had consumed drugs that were not as he anticipated, and attributing his actions to their effects,” stated Hampden DA representative, Payton North.
However, this was not the first instance in which Robson has killed a spouse.
“In 1984, he was convicted of murdering his then-wife Joan Cusson, a crime that left lasting wounds on her family. Members of that family remained deeply engaged throughout this case, with at least one relative attending every court proceeding. They voiced outrage that Robson had been released from prison and allowed the opportunity to commit another violent act, underscoring their enduring grief and frustration,” North said in a statement sent to Western Mass News Tuesday.
Both the Springfield Police Department and Hampden DA’s Office worked on the investigation into Holmes death.
Hampden District Attorney, Anthony Gulluni saying, “I want to express my deepest condolences to her loved ones, and I thank the Springfield Police Department and our prosecutors for their work in holding this defendant accountable. With (this) sentence, he will spend the remainder of his life in prison and will never again have the opportunity to harm another person.”
According to the Hampden Superior Court Clerk’s Office in Springfield Robson plead guilty and was sentenced last Monday, September 22nd.
