Louise O’Connor, Mark O’Connor, and Evan O’Connor died in a fatal stabbing in rural Co Louth

Police are interrogating a man regarding the suspected murders of three family members discovered in a remote property in rural Co Louth. Investigators are reviewing his medical background and recent conduct in an effort to understand the events that led to the deaths.

Several items, potentially weapons, were taken from the residence where the bodies of two men and one woman were found on Monday morning.

The three deceased individuals have been identified locally as Louise and Mark O’Connor, who were in their 50s, and their son Evan, who was in his 20s.

It remains uncertain if all the victims were stabbed, if their deaths resulted from blunt force trauma, or if the cause of death was the same for all three people. No firearms were involved.

Informants described the attack as likely being “sustained and determined” to kill three adults.

The suspected killings are thought to have occurred at or after breakfast time, though the events preceding the violence are still unknown.

Police authorities emphasized that the investigation is in its early stages, noting that officers arrived at the scene just before 10 a.m.

The isolated dwelling, a well-kept cottage situated in a remote part of Drumgowna, near Tallanstown, is located on the western side of the county. The family was well-known within the community.

Police officials stated they are not seeking other individuals. Sources indicated the case is “very raw” and “tragic.”

The suspect is understood to have a diagnosis of a serious mental illness and was prescribed medication.

One line being examined by police involves whether he was taking his medication recently and if non-compliance could be a contributing factor.

A police statement indicated: “Police are continuing to investigate the fatal incident at a residential property in Drumgowna, Tallanstown, Co Louth, this morning, Monday September 29, 2025.”

The statement added that police received a call to attend the property shortly before 10 a.m.

“Three individuals — a male and a female in their 50s and a male in his 20s were found deceased at the location,” the statement conveyed.

“A male, approximately in his 30s, has been arrested and is currently held at a station in the garda northwestern region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.”
