Kauai law enforcement authorities apprehended a 36-year-old female individual subsequent to an incident involving a vehicle collision that occurred in proximity to a 7-Eleven in the Hanamaulu region during the previous week.

Tragically, this event led to the death of a man. Police confirmed that the collision transpired on Friday evening. Responding officers arrived at the scene around 9:15 p.m. and discovered a man injured on the side of the Kuhio Highway. It was determined that the man had been hit by a car, which then departed the scene.

The man was transported by helicopter to Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu in a critical condition. Regrettably, he passed away on Sunday despite attempts to save his life. His identity was given as Alfred Lopes, aged 42, from Hanamaulu. Police managed to identify the driver of the vehicle involved, a 2021 Chevrolet pickup truck, which showed signs of damage typically found in a pedestrian collision.

The suspect was identified as Tiffany Jeffries, also 36, and a resident of Hanamaulu. Ms. Jeffries was arrested on charges including first-degree negligent injury, leaving the scene of an accident involving serious injury, and inattention while driving. She has since been released from custody while investigations continue.
