A tragic accident claimed the life of 65-year-old Frederic Sternberg of East Haven on Wednesday afternoon after he fell from an electric bike.

According to police, the incident occurred around 3:25 p.m. near the intersection of Mill Street and Foxon Road. Surveillance footage showed Sternberg traveling north on Mill Street when he stopped to pick up a 2×4 board that had been left in the roadway. While attempting to balance the board on his e-bike, he lost control and tumbled down an embankment.

A passerby discovered Sternberg unresponsive and immediately called 911. The bystander performed CPR until emergency responders arrived. Sternberg was transported to a nearby hospital with severe injuries, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities confirmed that no other vehicles or individuals were involved in the accident. Police continue to investigate the circumstances, but the incident appears to have been a tragic accident.
