Authorities in Kern County have confirmed the deaths of Maria Silvia Gonzalez Gandara, 48, and Isidro Felix Lopez, 48, both residents of Bakersfield, following a tragic murder-suicide in southeast Bakersfield Wednesday evening.

The Kern County Coroner’s Office reported that both victims were pronounced dead at the scene on Buckley Avenue shortly before 6:30 p.m. The Kern County Sheriff’s Office said they received a report of a shooting around the same time in the 500 block of Buckley Avenue, near South Union Avenue and East Panama Lane.

Preliminary information from the sheriff’s office suggests that the incident resulted from a domestic dispute, with Isidro Felix Lopez allegedly shooting his wife, Maria Silvia Gonzalez Gandara, before taking his own life.

The deaths have left the Bakersfield community and the families of the victims in shock as authorities continue their investigation into the tragic events.
