The Lima community is mourning the tragic loss of 14-year-old Kenny Schultheis, a student at Elida Local Schools, who was killed in a shooting late Tuesday night.
Police say the incident occurred around 10:50 p.m. on the 400 block of North Baxter Street. Responding officers found that multiple shots had been fired through a ground-floor window of a residence, striking Schultheis. Emergency responders rushed him to St. Rita’s Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Witnesses described the suspect as a tall, thin Black male wearing a white T-shirt, last seen running northbound on foot between houses. Detectives are actively reviewing neighborhood surveillance footage and following leads. In a statement, Elida Local Schools expressed their grief: “Our hearts and our prayers go out to his family, friends, teammates, and other loved ones at this time.” Counseling services have been made available for students and staff affected by the tragedy.
The investigation remains ongoing as the community rallies around the Schultheis family, calling for justice and an end to senseless violence.
