Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal shooting in East Chicago as 22-year-old Jontavis Pearson, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
Pearson was rushed to St. Catherine’s Hospital on Thursday morning after being found with gunshot wounds at 3612 Superior Court. Despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at 7:53 a.m. An autopsy conducted at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point confirmed the cause of death as homicide resulting from multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation into Pearson’s death remains active. Several law enforcement agencies, including the East Chicago Police Department and the Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force, are working together to determine the circumstances of the shooting.
As of Friday, police have not released further details, and the East Chicago Police Department did not respond to requests for additional information.
Pearson’s death marks another tragic act of violence in the community, leaving loved ones and neighbors searching for answers while investigators continue their work.
