1 Dead, 2 Injured in Harnett County Head-On Crash

A tragic head-on collision in Harnett County claimed the life of 29-year-old Lemuel Layne and sent two others to the hospital on Friday afternoon.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Layne was driving a 2003 blue Kia Soul eastbound on Ponderosa Road, north of Patriot’s Park, when the vehicle crossed left of center. A Nissan truck traveling in the opposite direction attempted to avoid the collision, but the Kia overcorrected, resulting in a head-on crash.

Layne was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger of the Nissan truck were transported to Womack Army Medical Center in Fort Bragg with injuries.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash to determine the exact circumstances, but the incident serves as a somber reminder of the dangers of roadway collisions. Emergency responders and the state patrol urge drivers to remain vigilant and cautious, especially on rural roads.

The community mourns the loss of Lemuel Layne, and authorities are focused on providing support and ensuring road safety in the area.
