RICHMOND TWP., Pa. — The Berks County Coroner’s Office has identified one of the victims in a devastating multi-vehicle crash that claimed two lives and left several others injured.

According to officials, 19-year-old Shanelle Aviles of Lancaster County was killed when the car she was riding in crossed the center grass median and collided head-on with an SUV on Route 222 north, near the Kutztown Road overpass, on Sunday afternoon.
Investigators say the violent impact caused the car to go over a bridge, crashing onto the road below. Moments later, the SUV that had been struck spun out of control and was hit by a tractor-trailer, further compounding the tragedy.
Police reported that three of the four people inside the car were ejected during the crash. Aviles and an 18-month-old child, whose name has not yet been released, both died from their injuries at the scene.
The 27-year-old driver and a 7-year-old boy were seriously injured and transported to area hospitals for treatment. The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries, while the truck driver was not hurt.
Traffic along Route 222 was shut down for several hours as crews worked to clear the wreckage and investigators from multiple agencies examined the scene.
Friends and family of Shanelle Aviles are reeling from the heartbreaking loss. Loved ones describe her as a bright and loving young woman with a kind heart and a contagious smile — someone who had her whole life ahead of her.
As the investigation into the cause of the crash continues, authorities are urging drivers to remain alert and cautious on highways, especially in high-speed or congested areas.
This tragedy has deeply shaken the Richmond Township and Lancaster communities, leaving two families mourning the unimaginable loss of a young mother and a child whose futures were taken far too soon.
Rest in peace, Shanelle Aviles and the young child — forever loved, forever remembered.
