The Toronto Police Service has launched a homicide investigation following the tragic death of an eight-year-old boy.

On Saturday, August 16, 2025, at approximately 12:27 a.m., officers responded to reports of gunshots near Martha Eaton Way and Trethewey Drive. Upon arrival, police found Jahvai Roy, 8, inside his home, having been struck by a stray bullet.

Emergency personnel immediately began life-saving efforts and transported the child to hospital under emergency conditions. Tragically, Jahvai was later pronounced dead. Authorities report that the suspect or suspects fled the area before police arrived.

Investigators are actively working to identify and apprehend those responsible, and the Toronto Police Service is urging anyone with information to come forward. The community mourns the loss of Jahvai, and police continue their investigation into this devastating incident.
