A mass shooting at Taste of the City Lounge in Crown Heights early Sunday morning left three dead, including Jamel Andre “Melly Da Don” Childs, 35, and nine others injured.
Friends and family described Childs as a “peacemaker” who often tried to defuse conflicts in the club. According to friend Rajawn Philips, Childs would step in to stop fights before they escalated. His brother, Richard Childs Jr., said, “He was trying to stop a fight… Jamel wanted to save the world. He wanted to save everyone.”
Despite these accounts, preliminary investigations indicate that Childs, along with a 19-year-old man also killed in the incident, may have been involved in opening fire during the shooting, police sources said.
A 27-year-old man was also killed in the gang-related shooting, which police say involved up to four shooters. Authorities confirmed that at least one of the victims was believed to be affiliated with the Folk Nation gang.
The tragic event has left the Brooklyn community mourning the loss of multiple lives, while police continue their investigation into the chaotic and deadly incident.
