A fatal shooting early Wednesday morning on North Roan Street claimed the life of 37-year-old Justin Sturdivant, authorities said.

According to the Johnson City Police Department (JCPD), officers were called to the scene at approximately 2 a.m. at 2412 North Roan Street, where they found Sturdivant lying in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts by officers to provide aid, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say the shooting stemmed from a confrontation between two men that escalated into a physical altercation, during which shots were fired. Jacob McGlone, 45, of Scottsboro, Alabama, was arrested at the scene without incident and has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Sturdivant’s death.

The JCPD’s Criminal Investigations Division is actively reviewing evidence, interviewing witnesses, and analyzing surveillance footage to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Police have not disclosed whether the two men knew each other prior to the encounter or whether a weapon was recovered.

The area was blocked off for several hours as officers processed the scene. Authorities extended condolences to Sturdivant’s family and stressed that the investigation remains a top priority.
