The Lancaster community is mourning the loss of Preston Malone, a student-athlete at Lancaster High School, who passed away on August 18 following a medical emergency during football practice.

School officials confirmed the tragic news in a statement Monday, extending heartfelt condolences to Malone’s family, teammates, and friends. The district has also dispatched a crisis counseling team to provide emotional support to students, staff, and the community as they grieve the sudden loss.

In the wake of the tragedy, Lancaster ISD has canceled all football practices for the week, including the scheduled scrimmage against North Forney on August 21. District leaders said the decision was made to allow students and staff time to process the loss and begin healing.

“Preston was not only a dedicated athlete but also a valued member of our school community,” the district shared. “His passing is an immeasurable loss, and we ask for continued prayers for his family.”
