A tragic motorcycle crash in Greene County claimed the life of 68-year-old Randall J. Straw, a longtime resident of Cedarville, early Thursday morning.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers were called to the scene of the accident at approximately 1:22 a.m. on Barber Road near Riva Trace Drive. Investigators say Straw was operating a 2013 Harley Davidson Tri-Glide Ultra Classic motorcycle when he attempted to make a right-hand turn onto Riva Trace Drive. He lost control, causing the motorcycle to overturn and veer off the left side of the road.

Despite swift response from emergency crews, Straw was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers confirmed he was not wearing a helmet, a factor authorities believe may have contributed to the severity of his injuries.

The Cedarville Police Department, Cedarville Township Fire Department, Greene County Sheriff’s Office, and Montgomery County Coroner’s Office all assisted at the scene. The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Xenia Post is leading the investigation, which remains ongoing.

Officials say that while preliminary findings point to Straw losing control while turning, investigators are also examining whether road conditions, speed, or mechanical issues played a role in the crash.

Straw’s passing has left his family, friends, and the Cedarville community grieving the sudden loss. Authorities emphasize the importance of motorcycle safety and helmet use, reminding riders that helmets greatly increase the chance of survival in the event of a crash.

As the investigation continues, Straw will be remembered as a well-known figure in his community, and his death stands as a somber reminder of the dangers motorcyclists face on the road.
