Humpy Wheeler, the legendary former president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway, has died at the age of 86.
Wheeler, who served as track president from 1975 to 2008, was widely regarded as one of the most innovative and influential figures in NASCAR history. Known for his showmanship and creative promotions, he helped transform Charlotte Motor Speedway into one of the premier venues in motorsports and brought countless fans to the sport.
Under his leadership, the track became a hub for not only racing but also large-scale entertainment events, setting a standard for how motorsports venues operate today. Wheeler’s vision and larger-than-life personality earned him the nickname “the P.T. Barnum of Motorsports.”
