A tragic crash in Burke County claimed the lives of two individuals Thursday afternoon, authorities confirmed. The incident occurred around 1:52 p.m. on August 21 at the intersection of Highway 25 South and Coleman Young Road.
According to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle carrying a driver and passenger was traveling east on Coleman Young Road. After stopping at a stop sign, the vehicle attempted to enter Highway 25 South and was struck by a southbound semi-trailer traveling in the right lane. Both occupants of the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi-trailer was transported to Burke Medical Center for evaluation. The identities of the deceased have not yet been released, as family members are being notified.
Investigators with the Burke County Sheriff’s Office continue to examine the crash to determine its cause. Officials urge anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact the sheriff’s office.
