Authorities have confirmed that 80-year-old Jerry Ricketts of Shepherdsville was killed in a devastating crash on U.S. Highway 60 Wednesday morning, August 21. The collision, which also left two others critically injured, is under investigation by the Kentucky State Police (KSP).
According to officials, the wreck happened near the 14000 block of U.S. 60 around 10:32 a.m. when a semi-tractor trailer driven by 77-year-old Marshall Morgan of Guston crossed the center line and struck a Ford F-150 head-on. Inside the pickup truck were Jerry Ricketts and his wife, 74-year-old Glenda Ricketts, who was driving.
The impact proved fatal for Jerry Ricketts, who was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to UofL Hospital in Louisville. The semi driver, Morgan, was also hospitalized with critical injuries. Both remain under medical care.
The violent crash left debris scattered across the highway, forcing emergency crews to close portions of U.S. 60 for several hours. Investigators are working to determine why the semi drifted into the opposite lane, examining possible medical, mechanical, or human factors.
The tragedy has left the Shepherdsville community mourning the loss of Jerry Ricketts, while loved ones and neighbors continue to hope for the recovery of Glenda Ricketts and Marshall Morgan. The investigation remains ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time.
