Authorities have identified the victim of a deadly shooting that occurred early Sunday, August 24, in Baton Rouge as 36-year-old Jonique Brown.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported that officers responded just before 4 a.m. to the area of Plank Road near Calumet Street, where they discovered Brown suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite emergency efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a violent altercation involving multiple individuals. During the fight, several people reportedly opened fire, and Brown was struck in the chaos. It remains unclear if she was directly involved or an unintended victim.

No suspects have been identified as detectives continue to collect evidence, review surveillance footage, and seek witnesses. Police are urging anyone with information to contact Capital Region Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.
