Sibley Community Mourns the Death of Joey Washington in Fiery Single-Vehicle Crash

SIBLEY, La. — A tragic single-vehicle accident in the early hours of Saturday, August 24, claimed the life of Joey Washington, 40, of Sibley, leaving family, friends, and the community in shock and mourning.

According to Louisiana State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 2:45 a.m. on U.S. Highway 371 near Yellow Pine Road. Washington was traveling northbound in a 2020 Ford F-150 when his pickup truck veered off the roadway, descended an embankment, and collided with a tree. The impact caused the vehicle to erupt in flames.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the truck was already fully engulfed in fire. Washington, trapped inside, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not confirmed whether he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The Louisiana State Police Crash Team is actively investigating the cause of the incident, examining potential contributing factors such as impairment, fatigue, speed, or mechanical failure.
