The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred on the city’s Northside Sunday night.

The victim has been identified as 34-year-old Johnnita Russell of Richmond. Officers responded to a residence in the 500 block of Hunt Avenue at approximately 9:30 p.m., where Russell was found suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite emergency efforts, she tragically succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Police have launched a homicide investigation and are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the deadly incident. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
