Candace Wilt,Christopher Cox Obituary, Death;- The Sangamon County Coroner has identified the individual who passed away after being struck by a vehicle while walking alongside a woman on Thursday night in Decatur.

According to Decatur police, 38-year-old Candace Wilt and the man, later confirmed to be 29-year-old Christopher Cox, were walking on the 1500 block of W. Main Street in the West End neighborhood of the city. Just prior to 10 p.m., officers reported that a car traveling westbound veered into the opposite lane of traffic and collided with the two individuals on the far sidewalk.

Wilt was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency responders transported Cox to Springfield Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for life-threatening injuries. In a press release dated August 25, the Sangamon County Coroner stated that Cox succumbed to multiple blunt force injuries on Sunday afternoon.

Officers have apprehended Issaih Flagg in relation to the incident. They noted that his driving license had been suspended for various reasons prior to the crash. The results of his blood alcohol content (BAC) test are still pending. Flagg is facing preliminary charges that include aggravated DUI resulting in death, aggravated DUI resulting in significant bodily harm, aggravated DUI with a suspended license, and operating a vehicle with a suspended license.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
