Even in retirement, Steve was actively pursuing a project close to his heart: establishing a retreat on his property for firefighters. The sanctuary was intended as a place for first responders to decompress, reflect, and rejuvenate—an embodiment of Steve’s deep understanding of the pressures faced by those who dedicate their lives to protecting others.

Steve’s final act of selflessness came in the form of organ donation, ensuring that his passing would give the gift of life to many others. Friends and family have noted that this decision perfectly reflected the generosity and compassion that defined his life.

Those close to Steve shared a poignant moment marking his final journey: as a plane departed for the Mayo Clinic, a rainbow appeared in the sky, symbolizing hope, peace, and the enduring impact of his life. Small reminders of his presence, like his favorite snack, Skittles, bring comfort to those mourning his loss.
