Italian man identified as pilot in fatal Bangor plane crash

The pilot of the private plane that crashed around 1:20 p.m. while attempting to land has been identified as Luigi Accusani, 74, of Italy. He was the only occupant of the plane, according to Sgt. Jason McAmbley of the Bangor Police Department.

A 48-second video of the crash on Friday taken by a 9-year-old Jaxon Cook, of Vassalboro, plane shows the landing at the airport before ascending again in an arcing path and crashing.

The single-engine Cessna A185F’s tail number is N714HE. It landed in France on Saturday, online flight records show. The plane then flew to Wick, United Kingdom, to Reykjavik, Iceland, and to Narasuaq, Greenland, on Monday.

The plane stayed in Greenland until Thursday when the pilot flew to Goose Bay, Labrador. Accusani was scheduled to fly into Bangor from Labrador on Friday.

Accusani’s death is believed to be the civilian first fatality recorded at the Bangor International Airport.
