Hampton Beach Drowning Victim Identified as 17-Year-Old New Hampshire Student

HAMPTON, N.H. — Authorities have identified the teenager who drowned at Hampton Beach on Sunday as 17-year-old Youness Kraouch, a Pinkerton Academy student from Derry, New Hampshire.

Kraouch, who would have entered his senior year this fall, was remembered by school officials as a bright, compassionate young man with a passion for soccer and engaging discussions. “He loved soccer and enjoyed lively debates with his fellow students. Youness also loved talking about his culture with others,” the school said in a statement.

Originally from Morocco, Kraouch had moved to the United States with the hope of finishing high school and pursuing a college education. He joined the Pinkerton community just last year, quickly becoming a valued part of the student body.

According to New Hampshire State Police, Kraouch had been swimming with his family when he was swept away by a strong current. His father attempted to save him but also became distressed. Both were pulled from the water by first responders, who performed lifesaving measures. Kraouch was transported to Exeter Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. His father remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Kraouch’s family described him as a “young, beautiful soul” and a “devout Muslim who loved playing soccer.” His passing has left his family, classmates, and community deeply heartbroken.
