CARLTON COUNTY, Minn. — Authorities have identified the two people who died in a fatal ATV crash on Saturday, August 23, in Carlton County. The victims were 48-year-old Lisa Jo Westendorf, of Cloquet, Minnesota, and 59-year-old Glen Alan Burdick, of Homestead, Iowa.

According to the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a call just before 9:20 p.m. regarding an ATV crash at Ditch Bank Forest Road in Progress Township. Responding agencies included Carlton County deputies, Fond du Lac Police, Fond du Lac Conservation Officers, Minnesota DNR Officers, and the Cromwell Wright Fire and Ambulance.

Investigators learned that Westendorf and Burdick had been riding in a side-by-side style ATV and became separated from the group they were traveling with. When members of the group went to look for them, they discovered the ATV overturned in the water.

Bystanders attempted CPR until first responders arrived, but tragically, both Westendorf and Burdick were pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the circumstances that led to the crash.
