The community of Cleveland and Towns County is mourning the loss of Kinsey Grice, a 21-year-old motorist who tragically died in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 75 Sunday evening, August 24, 2025.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, Grice was driving her Toyota Avalon northbound up Unicoi Mountain just before 10 p.m. when her vehicle crossed the double yellow line, left the roadway, and overturned approximately 80 feet down a steep embankment near Indian Gap Grove Road. She was the only occupant and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Road conditions were reported as clear and dry, and investigators have not yet determined what caused Grice to veer off the roadway. Factors under consideration include mechanical failure, driver distraction, or a sudden medical issue. Officials continue to investigate the crash.
The stretch of Highway 75 where the accident occurred is known for its sharp curves, steep drop-offs, and limited guardrails, making it particularly hazardous at night. Authorities have reminded drivers to exercise caution on mountain roads, where even minor lapses can have deadly consequences.
Grice, a native of Cleveland, was remembered by family and friends as a bright, caring, and ambitious young woman whose life was tragically cut short. Tributes on social media praised her kindness, warmth, and the joy she brought to those around her.
“Kinsey was one of the sweetest souls I’ve ever known,” one post read. “She deserved so much more time, and our hearts are broken.”
The tragedy has also reignited discussions about roadway safety in mountainous regions of Georgia, with residents and local leaders calling for additional safety measures along Unicoi Mountain to prevent similar accidents in the future.
Plans for memorial services honoring Kinsey’s life are expected to be announced in the coming days. Though her life was tragically brief, she will be remembered for her love, friendships, and the bright future she had been pursuing.
