Zachary Navo Visalia, CA Obituary, Navo Financial, Inc. Founder Passes Away

Zachary Irving Navo, affectionately known to many as Zak, was born on May 11, 1983, in Visalia, California. On August 18, 2025, surrounded by his family and immersed in love, Zak passed away far too soon, leaving behind a legacy of faith, devotion, strength, and kindness.

From childhood, Zak radiated energy, curiosity, and a zest for life. He attended George McCann Memorial Catholic School from kindergarten through eighth grade, where he eagerly embraced every opportunity—whether it was athletics, science fairs, poetry recitals, serving at Mass, or playing in the bell choir. At Redwood High School, he discovered the sport that became one of his greatest passions: golf. Not only did he letter all four years, but he also left a lasting impression on his teammates, remembered as much for his loyalty and camaraderie as for his swing.

Although sports gave him purpose, Zak felt called to something greater. Inspired by his father, Mark, and his Uncle Kenny, a veteran of both WWII and the Korean War, Zak chose to serve his country. Following the events of September 11, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, beginning a journey that would define his life.

Zak’s military career reflected his discipline, courage, and determination. He completed training at MCRD and Camp Pendleton, earned qualifications in Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Defense, and went on to instruct others in chemical agent handling. Always seeking new challenges, he was selected as a Marine Corps Security Guard—an “Embassy Marine.” In this elite role, he protected U.S. embassies, safeguarded classified materials, and provided security for distinguished leaders, including President George W. Bush, Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell, Donald Rumsfeld, and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Over five years of dedicated service, Zak rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Among his peers, he earned the nickname “Silverback” for his toughness, strength, and ability to stand firm in any situation. His assignments took him across Asia and Africa, where he lived and served with distinction. Though offered classified positions in Washington, D.C., and South America, Zak’s heart ultimately led him back home to Visalia.

After his service, Zak transitioned to civilian life with the same drive and commitment he carried as a Marine. He briefly worked alongside his father at Allstate Insurance before founding Navo Financial, Inc. in 2010. By 2011, he had received the Veteran Owned Business Award in Fresno, a testament to his relentless work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. Never one to slow down, he expanded his ventures by launching Element Security in 2017, offering trusted security services throughout California. Those who knew him best often smile at the memory of his passionate late-night emails—filled with ALL CAPS enthusiasm—sent as early as 4:30 a.m.

In 2016, Zak found his greatest blessing when he married the love of his life, Tina Slenders, in Fresno. Their relationship, rooted in friendship, blossomed into a marriage filled with devotion, loyalty, and joy. Ever thoughtful, Zak often left Tina handwritten notes throughout the house, simple but powerful reminders of his love. Together they welcomed two daughters, Teddi Grace in 2018 and Rozlyn Taylor in 2020. Fatherhood gave Zak a new mission, one he embraced wholeheartedly. No matter how far he had traveled in the Marines, nothing compared to the joy of coming home to his little girls, their laughter filling the house as they ran to greet him with hugs. Weekends were often spent swimming in the backyard pool, enjoying In-N-Out Burger singalongs, attending Mass, sharing donuts, or practicing golf swings at the Visalia Country Club.

Zak was a man of faith, family, and service. His Catholic values guided him, his discipline and generosity inspired others, and his joy for life left an impression on everyone he met.
