Man Dies in Springfield After Domestic Assault, Police Say

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Authorities report that a man died Tuesday, August 26, after shooting himself during a domestic violence incident at a residence on the 700 block of 60th Street.

According to Springfield Police Lt. George Crolly, officers were called to the home around 11 a.m. after a woman fled the residence and sought help from a neighbor. Responding officers were notified of shots fired and a domestic dispute. The woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated by medics.

Lt. Crolly said that by the time police arrived, the man had already taken his own life. Springfield Police, assisted by the Lane County Sheriff’s Office and the Eugene Police Department, used an armored vehicle and drones to safely approach the residence. Drones revealed the man down on the floor, and SWAT officers and medics subsequently confirmed his death.

Police confirmed that the man and the woman involved were married, and the incident remains under investigation. Authorities emphasized the importance of reporting domestic violence and urged anyone experiencing similar situations to seek immediate help.
