It is with great sadness that the family and community of Ferdinand, Indiana announce the passing of Bruce Fleck, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and coach. Bruce passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at the age of 48. Known for his dedication to his family, his faith, and his love of youth sports, Bruce’s legacy will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Bruce was born on September 10, 1976, in Jasper, Indiana, to Gilbert and Sylvia (Hopf) Fleck. He grew up in Ferdinand, where he developed a lifelong passion for sports, teamwork, and community service. A 1995 graduate of Forest Park High School, Bruce excelled both academically and athletically, earning the respect of his teachers, classmates, and teammates. His love of the game eventually took him to DePaul University, where he continued his education and became a proud member of the DePaul Blue Demons baseball team. During his college years, he also joined Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, creating bonds and friendships that lasted throughout his life.
On June 2, 2001, Bruce married Audrey Reckelhoff at St. Anthony Catholic Church, beginning a devoted partnership that was built on faith, love, and family. Together, they raised three children—Grace, Grant, and Reid Fleck—who were the center of Bruce’s world. He cherished his role as a father, and whether it was coaching a game, helping with schoolwork, or simply spending time together, he found his greatest joy in supporting his children’s lives and dreams.
Bruce’s professional life reflected the same commitment and work ethic he carried into his personal endeavors. He was employed with Kimball International, where he served as a Manufacturing Warehouse Manager. His leadership, reliability, and dedication made him a valued colleague and friend within the workplace.
Perhaps most notably, Bruce was deeply passionate about coaching and mentoring young athletes. He gave countless hours of his time to Ferdinand Little League, Spikes Baseball, and AAU Basketball, where he not only taught skills and strategies, but also instilled values of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship. Many young athletes and families will remember Bruce not only as a coach, but also as a mentor and positive role model.
A man of strong faith, Bruce was a devoted member of Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church, and was also active in the Forest Park Letterman’s Club. His faith guided him throughout his life, and his commitment to service and community was evident in all that he did.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Audrey of Ferdinand; his daughter, Grace, and sons, Grant and Reid, all of Ferdinand; his parents, Gilbert and Sylvia Fleck of Ferdinand; his brother, Brad (Sara) Fleck of Huntingburg; and two nieces, Loren and Hannah Fleck, also of Huntingburg. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ryan Fleck, whose memory he always carried close.
