Isaiah Tovar Injured in Peachtree MARTA Shooting as Atlanta Police Search for Two Suspects

Atlanta police are intensifying their search for two suspects wanted for questioning in connection with a shooting that took place aboard a MARTA train near the Buckhead Station on the morning of July 26. Authorities confirmed that the victim, identified as Isaiah Tovar, was struck by a bullet during the confrontation but survived with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say the incident unfolded shortly before the train pulled into Buckhead Station along the southbound track. According to MARTA police, Tovar was grazed by a bullet in what they described as a violent altercation inside one of the train cars. Emergency responders quickly transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and later reported to be in stable condition. Officials stressed that while Tovar’s injuries were not life-threatening, the shooting itself caused major alarm among passengers and disrupted travel on one of Atlanta’s busiest public transit routes.

While trains continued operating northbound to minimize delays, southbound service was temporarily halted as police and crime scene investigators worked to secure the area, gather evidence, and interview witnesses. Many riders were shaken by the violence, with some recalling scenes of panic as gunfire erupted on board. “It’s terrifying to think something like this can happen in the middle of the day on public transportation,” one witness told local reporters.

Authorities have since released surveillance images showing two individuals they are seeking in connection with the shooting. Both suspects are believed to have boarded the train earlier at the MARTA West End Station. The first suspect, a man, was last seen wearing a black shirt with the word “RAW” emblazoned across the front, stone-wash jeans, and slide-style sandals. The second suspect, a woman, was dressed in a black jacket, black pants, and dark-colored slides.

Atlanta police and MARTA security officials have warned the public that both suspects should be considered armed and dangerous. They have urged anyone who recognizes the individuals to avoid approaching them and instead contact authorities immediately.

In an effort to encourage tips, Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta has announced a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of those responsible. Members of the public can submit information anonymously by calling (404) 577-8477 or texting CSGA to 738477.

At this stage of the investigation, police have suggested that Tovar, the shooting victim, may have been the initial aggressor in the conflict that escalated into gunfire. However, they emphasized that the case remains open and that more evidence is needed before drawing final conclusions. Authorities are still working to determine the motive behind the confrontation and whether the suspects knew Tovar prior to the shooting.

The July 26 incident has renewed concerns over safety on Atlanta’s transit system, particularly following a string of violent events in recent years. City officials and MARTA leadership have pledged to strengthen security measures, including additional patrols, improved surveillance, and community engagement programs aimed at reducing crime on trains and in stations.

For now, the focus remains on locating the suspects and ensuring justice for Isaiah Tovar. Investigators are urging anyone with knowledge of the suspects’ whereabouts to come forward, stressing that public cooperation could play a critical role in preventing further violence.
