Tony Jerome Norman Obituary, Death; – A hospital security guard who was on his way home was shot in West Oakland when gunfire erupted between two vehicles, according to family members.
The deceased has been identified by relatives as Tony Jerome Norman, 67, who lost his life in the shooting incident that occurred on Wednesday near the intersection of 17th and Brush streets.
Norman, employed as a security guard at Kaiser, was returning home from BART when he was caught in the crossfire, as stated by his partner. “It’s just like the O.K. Corral out here,” his wife expressed to KTVU. She recounted witnessing paramedics providing assistance to Norman before she realized it was her husband.
Norman succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
A verified GoFundMe campaign established for the family characterized Norman as a diligent individual originally from North Carolina, who relocated and established his life in California.
“Tony was merely crossing the street on his way home when he was tragically shot—an innocent victim ensnared in gunfire that had no connection to him or his actions. He never returned home that night,” the family stated. They further added, “Tony did not deserve this. He was a man who consistently showed up, performed his duties, cherished his family, and lived with honor. His absence has created a profound emptiness in our lives.”
The funds collected will be allocated towards funeral and burial costs.
The homicide unit of the Oakland Police Department is currently investigating the deadly shooting.
Authorities have yet to disclose any information regarding suspects or the events that led to the shooting.
