Authorities Identify Woman Killed in Suspected Hit-and-Run in Jo Daviess County

JO DAVIESS COUNTY, Ill. — The Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed the identity of the woman believed to have been fatally struck in a suspected hit-and-run incident on Friday morning.

The victim has been identified as Nicole Burke, 37, of South Wayne, Wisconsin, according to a press release issued by authorities.

Deputies were dispatched shortly after 11 a.m. Friday to the 8800 block of Illinois 78 North, just northwest of Warren, following a report of an unresponsive person found in a roadside ditch. First responders arrived on scene and determined that Burke was deceased.

Investigators believe that Burke had been walking northwest along Illinois 78 North when she was struck by a vehicle. The driver of that vehicle then fled the scene, authorities said.

The Sheriff’s Department is now urging the public to assist in the investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information related to the case is asked to contact the department at 815-777-2141 or submit a tip through the Jo Daviess County website.

The incident remains under active investigation.
