The Thibodaux community is mourning the devastating loss of Colbi Blanchard, a student-athlete at Thibodaux High School and beloved son of Jessica Blanchard, who tragically passed away on the morning of August 30th at 10:13 a.m. Surrounded by his mother and his nanny, Colbi passed peacefully after a courageous fight that deeply touched all who knew him.
Colbi was more than a son, a brother, and a friend — he was a teammate, a role model, and a bright light at Thibodaux High School. A member of the Boys Varsity Football team, he was known not only for his talent on the field but also for his leadership, sportsmanship, and infectious energy. To his coaches and teammates, Colbi was a player who gave his all, inspired others with his determination, and built strong bonds that extended far beyond the game. His presence in the locker room and on the field will be profoundly missed.
His mother, Jessica, shared heartfelt words with family, friends, and supporters following his passing. She expressed her immense gratitude for the prayers, encouragement, and love that surrounded Colbi during his final days. She acknowledged that while the miracle so many prayed for was not theirs to receive, Colbi’s life and legacy became a miracle for others through the donation of his organs. Young, strong, and healthy, he has given the ultimate gift: the chance for other families to continue their own stories.
Colbi’s passing has been a heavy burden on his loved ones, yet Jessica urged all who knew him to remember the joy he brought into their lives. She encouraged friends, teammates, and community members to share their memories, keep his spirit alive through stories, and carry forward the love and light he represented. “We won’t grieve alone or long,” she reminded, adding that Colbi would want everyone to find strength, healing, and even joy in his memory.
The Blanchard family extended special thanks to Lafayette General Hospital, whose staff went above and beyond in providing compassionate care and support during Colbi’s final days. Jessica described the hospital team as gracious, supportive, and deeply understanding, ensuring that Colbi and every visitor felt cared for and respected during this time of unimaginable loss.
As news of his passing spread, tributes poured in from across Thibodaux — from classmates and friends to fellow athletes and community members who had been touched by Colbi’s kindness and determination. His impact reached far beyond the football field, inspiring both peers and younger students who looked up to him.
Though arrangements and memorial plans have not yet been finalized, Jessica has asked for continued prayers and privacy as the family navigates this painful journey. She also asked that friends and supporters refrain from sending donations until official guidance comes directly from her.
Colbi Blanchard’s life, though far too short, was filled with purpose, love, and inspiration. His legacy will live on not only in the lives saved through his final gift of organ donation, but also in the memories he leaves behind — of a young man who played with heart, lived with joy, and loved deeply.
