18-Year-Old Identified as Victim in Fatal Eunice Shooting

EUNICE, La. – Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal shooting in Eunice on Sunday night as 18-year-old Fredrick Stevens Jr., according to family members.

Police said they were first alerted around 10:02 p.m. on August 31 to reports of about six people in hoodies carrying firearms walking on Perrotti Street toward Fuselier Street. Minutes later, a second call reported shots fired in the area.

When officers arrived in the 200 block of Fuselier Street, they discovered Stevens suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso. Despite lifesaving efforts by police and emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner’s Office.

Investigators confirmed that one firearm was recovered at the scene, but no motive has been established. Police also noted that no witnesses have come forward.

The case remains under investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Eunice Police Department or St. Landry Crime Stoppers.
