ISSAQUAH, Wash. — Two people were hospitalized Saturday night after being pulled from the water at Lake Sammamish State Park, marking the third water-related emergency reported in the region that day.
According to the King County Sheriff’s Office, the victims had been on watercraft before ending up in the water. One of the individuals, identified as 44-year-old Dinesh Muthusamy, suffered a tragic drowning incident that left him unconscious and placed on life support. Despite extensive medical efforts, doctors have confirmed there is no chance of recovery.
Bystanders at the beach managed to pull one person from the water and immediately began CPR. Patrol officers with the Sheriff’s Office pulled the second person from the lake and also performed CPR. Life-saving measures were administered for at least 30 minutes before both victims were transported to Overlake Medical Center in Bellevue.
Issaquah police described the incident as accidental.
The Lake Sammamish emergency was one of three water-related incidents across western Washington on Saturday. Earlier, a 43-year-old man drowned in Renton’s Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park while fleeing from police, and a 55-year-old man died after a medical emergency at Lake Tapps.
