Purnell Collins Obituary, Death; – Purnell Collins, aged 58, passed away on Saturday night after his truck veered into oncoming traffic and collided with two other vehicles near Blades, as reported by the Delaware State Police.
According to the DSP, the incident occurred around 11 p.m. on September 6 on Seaford Road, just outside of Blades. Troopers attempted to pull over a Chevrolet Silverado due to a registration infraction, as the truck was found to have an expired temporary tag, according to police.
The troopers reported that the driver accelerated northward, crossed into oncoming traffic, and collided head-on with a Ford F-150 in the left turn lane for southbound traffic as Seaford Road transitions into Market Street.
The force of the collision pushed the F-150 into a Chevrolet Camaro that was traveling behind it, as stated by the DSP. Investigators noted that Collins was not wearing a seatbelt and was declared dead at the scene. He was a resident of Seaford.
The driver of the F-150, a 34-year-old man from Laurel, was wearing a seatbelt and was transported to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. He has since been discharged. The 20-year-old driver of the Camaro from Delmar, Maryland, who was also wearing a seatbelt, opted to decline medical treatment.
The DSP indicated that Market Street was partially closed for approximately five hours while the Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit conducted their investigation and cleared the area.
