It is with profound grief and heartbreak that we share the passing of Savannah Matthias, a bright and beloved student at Panorama High School in Panora, Iowa. Savannah tragically lost her life in a car accident on Saturday, September 13, 2025, leaving her family, classmates, and community devastated by the sudden loss of a young woman whose presence brought light and joy to everyone around her. At only 17 years old, Savannah’s life was just beginning, and her passing has created a void that can never truly be filled.
Savannah was known for her kind heart, radiant smile, and the love she carried for her friends, family, and community. As a student at Panorama High School, she was admired not only for her dedication to her studies but also for the way she treated others with compassion and respect. Teachers and classmates alike describe her as a young woman with strong character, faith, and the ability to lift the spirits of those around her.
To honor Savannah’s life and faith, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) at Panorama High School will host a Memorial Gathering on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. in the school auditorium. This gathering will be a time for prayer, reflection, and remembrance, as students, staff, family, and community members come together to celebrate Savannah’s life and the impact she had on so many. Through scripture, prayer, and shared memories, the community will lean on faith for comfort during this time of unimaginable loss.
Savannah’s passing has especially shaken her family, who are trying to process the tragedy while also making arrangements to come together in Iowa for her funeral. Her grandmother shared the heartbreaking reality of receiving the news no family ever wants to hear—that her precious granddaughter had been killed in an accident. Family members are traveling from Pennsylvania and Ohio to be present for her services and to say their final goodbyes. In the midst of their grief, they have asked for help with travel costs such as gas, food, and lodging, so they can honor Savannah’s memory together as a family.
Friends and community members have also taken to social media to share their tributes, posting photos and memories of Savannah. Many have described her as someone who had a special way of making people feel seen, heard, and valued. Others have reflected on her strong faith, finding solace in the belief that she is now at peace in the presence of God.
The Matthias family has expressed their deep gratitude for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support during this incredibly difficult time. They are asking for continued thoughts and prayers as they navigate the painful days ahead.
As Psalm 34:18 reminds us: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Though Savannah’s life was far too short, her legacy of kindness, love, and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her.
Forever loved and never forgotten, Savannah Matthias will always remain a cherished daughter, granddaughter, classmate, and friend.
