The community of Murrysville, Pennsylvania, is mourning the heartbreaking and untimely loss of Tayson Foltz, a student at Franklin Regional High School, who tragically died by suicide on Sunday, September 14, 2025.
Tayson’s passing has left family, friends, teachers, and neighbors devastated as they try to come to terms with the loss of a bright young life filled with promise. Tayson was discovered early Sunday morning near the high school gym entrance.
According to Murrysville Police Chief Tom Kusinsky, he was found around 6 a.m. outside his car, which had been set on fire. Authorities confirmed that the fire was secondary to the event and not the cause of his death.
Because the incident was captured on school surveillance cameras, police have considered the case closed, allowing space for the family and community to grieve privately.
Franklin Regional School District Superintendent Gennaro R. Piraino Jr. released a heartfelt statement to families in the district, expressing the profound sorrow of losing one of their own.
“This is an unimaginable loss for our school community, and our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the student’s family and friends,” he wrote. Counselors and mental health professionals have been made available to help both students and staff navigate the grief and shock brought by this tragedy.
Those who knew Tayson describe him as a kindhearted, thoughtful, and compassionate young man who left a mark on everyone around him. Whether in the classroom, with friends, or at home with his family, Tayson’s presence was felt through his quiet strength, his sense of humor, and his willingness to be there for others.
His life, though tragically cut short, was filled with moments of love, laughter, and connection that his loved ones will carry with them forever. Tayson’s death is a sobering reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and support for young people.
In the wake of his passing, the Franklin Regional community has come together to emphasize the need for kindness, compassion, and open conversations about the struggles so many silently endure. While no words can erase the pain of this loss, the outpouring of love and support for Tayson’s family reflects how deeply he was cherished.
Classes for kindergarten through eighth grade will continue as scheduled, but Franklin Regional High School will focus its efforts on creating a supportive environment for students grappling with grief. Additional counseling resources are available, ensuring that no student feels alone during this difficult time.
As the community rallies around the Foltz family, many are sharing stories and memories of Tayson—his laughter, his friendships, and his gentle spirit. These remembrances serve as a powerful reminder that while he is gone, his impact will never be forgotten.
The family has asked for privacy as they process their grief and make memorial arrangements. In honoring Tayson, the community is encouraged to lean on one another, extend compassion, and continue supporting mental health initiatives so that others may find hope in times of struggle.
Rest in peace, Tayson Foltz. Your light will live on in the hearts of those who love you.
